The Sansula Project
The Sansula has been around since 2001. It is still a pretty new instrument and many people have never seen or heard one, but awareness is growing. Peter Hokema, the German engineer who invented it wasn't much of a player. People are still figuring out what to do with it, what is possible.
For me the beauty is in the oval shape. It lets one hold the instrument with the sides of the hands leaving the fingers free to play. This is not a comfortable position for a rectangular kalimba, if you aspire, check out Chandra Lacombe.
But the Sansula is a vibraphone, so it can do stuff these others can't, you just need to flip it over. I discovered this while sunbaking on a beach in Mexico. I didn't want to move so I played it on my stomach and Wow. Look!

I recorded an album a few years ago. It was a journey collecting the soundscapes myself, and then going to my sound man to record.
The full album is free on bandcamp at:

I am looking forward to recording something new, what has the instrument got to teach me to now?
